Crawfish picts!

Like I said, a great boil this year. John came through as always with some excellent spice mixture - truly the crawfish-ianado.
These are some of the kids trying to 'drown' the crawfish before they're actually cooked:

The potatoes disappeared super fast, so we need to remember to get more of those next year. And we're definitely getting better at estimating crawfish - this year we had very few leftover. As always, somebody gets a ride home with someone else, and conveniently leaves their truck at our place. That means you've volunteered to haul away crawfish shells the next day - thanks for the help Todd!


And, though there was bocce ball and washers, the most popular game this year proved to be....hammering a nail into a log. Yes, that's right. Apparently this is a popular bar game in the Netherlands, and it was quite popular on Saturday. And ended up getting quite wild, after going through a keg of beer plus who knows what else!

Thank you to everyone for coming, and especially thanks to our families for helping it get it all together and cleaning up the next day!

Crawfish finish

So, we literally just finished putting in the shed anything that should not get wet, and it has started to POUR - check it out:


It was a very good boil this year - mother nature let us squeeze it in between two massive rain storms, and we had a partly cloudy morning yesterday, with highs only in the low 80s (much better than that first year where we hit 108!). We won't be able to really clean up outside today, but I guess that's what rain is for. I'll post picts later, after we get a chance to actually clean the inside of the house. Unfortunately, mother nature won't be helping us on that one!

Singularity Event

So, earlier this week Kyle was telling me about this article that he read in Wired Magazine. Now, I didn't read it, but it had something do with the point at which computers will be able to think for themselves. Right now they're apparently close, and you can have conversations with them and not think it's a computer, but what trips them up is when you ask them in the middle of a question what is pi divided by 4.5 and they give an answer right away - that's a pretty big hint you're not talking to a human.
Anyways, so I was checking out my RSS feeds, and came across this article (also conveniently through Wired - are we nerds?). It seems like if you were sort of a techno-phobe, you could find some sort of correlation or decide this meant the end of the world was near, but really, it just makes me wonder if we really want the government using so much technology when it may not know what it's really doing. I mean, sometimes it works great, like when I get a refund within a couple of weeks of filing taxes, but, you know, I'm a pessimist (or maybe you didn't know) so, maybe it's not so great...?
